Welcome to the FWW Prayer Guide for July. A PDF copy, for printing, is available here. We hope it will be useful for personal prayer, but also for those who lead intercessions in services. Do pass it on to those in your church who would be interested. Any feedback from use of the Guide would be most welcome. We also use the Guide at our quarterly online prayer meeting. The next meeting will be on July 8th from 1.00 – 1.30 p.m. For the Zoom link for that, and any feedback, please email dickjohnson@faithatwork.org.uk
In June we prayed for the General Election. Whatever the result we should continue to pray for our new government, and the changes we can anticipate, especially those that impact the most vulnerable in our economy.
We also ask for prayers for our chaplaincy, at a time of challenge and change. At the latest trustees meeting of Faith at Work in Worcestershire we set specific objectives for the rest of this year. We ask your prayers for these (listed below), and for those who will take a lead in meeting them. We ask for your prayers for West Mercia Police in particular this month as the latest inspection by His Majesties Inspectorate begins. This will continue until December, with the report expected in April 2025.
Heavenly Father, hear our prayers as we bring to you
the needs of our world, our nation and your Church.
Pour out your Spirit upon us that, in all things, we may
acknowledge your presence,
seek your mercy and compassion,
and share your love, through your Son, and saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen
Especially we pray for:
- Our new government, and all elected to serve as MPs, for grace, wisdom and integrity.
- The impact of new political leadership and policies on the shaping of our economy and the experience of work; for justice, wellbeing and mutuality in all things.
- All involved in the inspection of West Mercia Police, especially at a time of change in leadership of the Force and for Dick Johnson (Lead Chaplain[1]) and the team of chaplains to the police.
- Faith at Work in Worcestershire in key work for the rest of this year.
- Planning for the FWW Autumn Workplace Visit and Seminar, in October.
- Recruitment of three new trustees for FWW before the end of the year, including someone to be treasurer with the expected retirement of Anthony Glossop.
- New volunteers to join the chaplaincy teams in Redditch and Kidderminster specifically.
- Plans to measure the effectiveness of chaplaincy, as a follow up to the ‘Chaplaincy Impact Survey’ of 2020.
- Progress in new shared work with the Anglican Diocese of Worcester on developing chaplaincy to new homes construction sites.
- Dick Johnson (FWW Development Officer), trustees and all involved in pursuing these objectives.
- FWW Chaplains as they continue to visit workplaces over the summer.
- In our cycle of prayer for the work of FWW, this month we pray for:
Chaplaincy: The work of chaplains at the Livestock Market in Worcester, Brenda Williams, Tim Richards and Sue Adeney.
[1] Dick undertakes three roles in workplace chaplaincy, as Lead Chaplain to West Mercia Police and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, as well as Development Officer for Faith at Work in Worcestershire.
